MICHAEL HERING
LMT, Certified Functional Trainer
BACKGROUND
Michael was born and raised in Huntington, NY. It was a town rich in history including the American Revolution and men such as Walt Whitman and Herman Melville. He spent most of his childhood and young adulthood wandering around in the local forests of West Hills Park, embracing the nature around as he still does today wherever he goes.
EDUCATION
Michael graduated from New York College of Health Professions with his associates degree in Occupational Studies and Massage Therapy. There he learned an incredible amount of information about the human body, including a complete understanding of the human anatomy and physiology, multiple massage modalities and traditional Chinese medicine. Fun fact! This is more than what is taught to registered nurses.
WHY ARE YOU A MASSAGE THERAPIST?
Michael initially looked into chiropractic school! But after finding out that his college credits wouldn't transfer properly, he switched his focus to massage therapy. Michael had studied anthropology and learned that through massage he could further this interest in anthropology and research. Working with people through massage helps to learn more about humans and their patterns through muscular health and biomechanics.
AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST
Throughout his career, Michael has found that he excels working in and understanding the myofascial bodily system. This brings real, lasting results. With myofscial release treatments, he is capable of finding the dehydrated and dysfunctional areas of tissue in people's bodies and working into them to rehydrate. This also makes the tissues more malleable and ready for the postural change to come. He sends everyone home with some form of postural advice/exercise. This allows his clients to make real progress with every session rather than the old school pattern of massage therapy where people give the same massage to the same person with the same aches and pains in the same places every time.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
In his free time, Michael mostly trains and exercises in biomechanic focused modalities to keep his body in tip top shape. He loves like hiking, traveling and occasionally grappling (wrestling/jiu-jitsu) with his friends. His biomechanics training helps him not have to worry as much about getting hurt! Michael is also an avid reader and loves spending time with his fiancé (Taylor), cat and dog.
