Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

As Webster Technique certified practitioners and a members of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), Dr. Goodman & Dr. Schwabe supports expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy.  There is a notion that back pain and discomfort is normal during pregnancy.  Although a woman’s body is going through many physical changes, there is no reason she cannot have an enjoyable, active experience.

Dr. Goodman uses light force as well as standard, diversified techniques to help a woman as her body is changing. The Webster Technique is specifically geared towards creating a neutral pelvis and therefore decreasing the incidence of pelvic torsion and creating an environment for optimal fetal positioning. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is intended to promote a healthy pregnancy and an uneventful labor and delivery.

Labor and delivery is an adventure! It is grueling and stressful on the baby’s delicate spine and nervous system. Our doctors check newborn babies to decrease any stress to their head and neck or other nervous system interference that may be affecting their mood, sleep, nursing/feeding and overall health.

Testimonials

Let me start by saying two things:  First, I am not one to seek out alternative treatments.  Secondly, I have always been apprehensive and a bit fearful of chiropractic work.  I was referred to Dr. Goodman by my OB in attempt to flip a 34 week gestation baby.  Though apprehensive I agreed to try it based on my strong desire to avoid a scheduled C-section.  This, my second pregnancy, has been significantly more difficult for me than my first.  I have had a great deal of pain in my low back that radiated into my hips and down my legs.  I haven’t been able to sleep with this baby due to pain and overall been a very difficult person to be around (according to my husband) due to the pain I was in.  I had trouble getting off the couch and walking up stairs, seemed a bit much for only being 30 years old, but I was pregnant and in my mind it was “par for the course”.  I did not remember this much pain in my first pregnancy but I was tending to a rambunctious 2 year old, thus, all my symptoms were explainable in my mind.  After a thorough evaluation Dr. Goodman determined that one of my SI joints in my hips was stuck, a common condition that creates less room in the uterus and may inhibit the baby from turning.  At this point I hadn’t even gone into detail with Dr Goodman regarding my pain.  I believe the extent of my explanation was, “yes I can’t sleep, yes everything hurts and yes I am ready to have this baby.”  After multiple adjustments (which weren’t nearly as bad as I had envisioned) I drove home.  That was when I first noticed a decrease in my hip pain.  I live one hour away and up until this point I couldn’t drive more than 15 min without pain radiating down my legs.  The rest of that evening I was pleasantly surprised at the decrease in my pain but I was not ready to be 100% convinced.  I went back the next day for another adjustment.  That night I did not wake up once.  After two visits I can honestly say I am almost pain free.  I am amazed by the results and feel so much better.  I only wish I had found Dr Goodman earlier, it would have made me enjoy my pregnancy so much more.  I can’t believe it took me 30 years and two kids to go see a Chiropractor.  While I will only be pregnant for a few more months I now intend to continue Chiropractic treatments with Dr. Goodman as an integral part of my health care routine.  Thank you Dr. Goodman for helping me to enjoy being pregnant again.
