Emily’s Wellness Commitment:

It seems as if my workout routines have gotten all mixed up. In the winter when the weather is wretched and the days are short I tend to loose weight. Then, when bikini season rolls around my rolls start appearing. Time to make a change! Now that I’m not juggling 3 internships, two part time jobs and another year of school looming in the background, I have had some time to get into gear.

I have started working out regularly. Barkley and I used to do a walk around the block in the mornings, but now we are up to 5 miles a day, and I am finally to the point where I look forward to my hour long walks. I know that the hardest part of this workout routine is staying committed. It’s not hard to hit the snooze button and just sleep in that extra hour. Entertainment is key! My solution: books on my ipod.

Reading has become a luxury for me, and there is nothing like a good book to keep your mind entertained. I recently finished up the trilogy of “The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo”. I just started “The Help”. After reading rave reviews I’m excited to dive into it.

While walking has kept me entertained and moving, I am feeling my muscles getting tired and aching. I need to accentuate my walking with some kind of stretching and core work. This week I will be adding yoga to my routine. Pearl Street Yoga seems to be the perfect fit. I can just walk over there after work! Talk about convenient. I’m also excited to have an outlet to meet new people and try out some new things. I would be interested in hearing about anyone’s experiences at Pearl Street Yoga, and which classes are the best for a semi-beginner like me!

What’s next? Healthy and easy dinner recipes. YUM!

Getting 6 pack abs and having a healthy diet could be tricky. The key is having a healthy metabolism.
